Physiotherapy at The Wickham Canine Rehabilitation Centre

The Hampshire Canine Physio Clinic at The Wickham Canine Rehabilitation Centre offers a professional, holistic physiotherapy service.

Our resident physiotherapist, Rachel Quinn, qualified as a Chartered Veterinary Physiotherapist from the University of the West of England with a Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Physiotherapy. To gain entry onto the PG Dip Rachel first completed a 3 year BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Southampton.

Rachel spent time working as a human physiotherapist within a hospital setting during her time training on the postgraduate diploma, but has also worked extensively in the canine and equine industry since she was 14, as well as during both degree programmes. This has included riding schools, livery yards, stud and competition yards and a small animal veterinary practice. This enabled Rachel to develop an extensive understanding of the demands and problems that can be faced by both dogs and horses, from the everyday pet to the elite athlete.

Chartered Veterinary Physiotherapy

The title Chartered Physiotherapist is protected by law, and indicates a high level of academic achievement. A Chartered Veterinary Physiotherapist has a both a degree in human physiotherapy and a Post Graduate Diploma or MSc in veterinary physiotherapy.

However the title of “Physiotherapist” is not protected and therefore when looking for a Physiotherapist for an animal you should ensure they are a Chartered Physiotherapist, with the initials MCSP after their name.

A Chartered Veterinary Physiotherapist is required to demonstrate a high level of continuing professional development as part of their ACPAT and CSP membership. This means evidence based practice is used at all times when assessing and treating animals, ensuring only the most up-to-date techniques are utilised by the Chartered Physiotherapist.
